Hmmm well, went to see the movie yesterday....came back with kinda mixed reactions.
Didn't quite meet all my expections of what i'd call a very nice movie..It was more of a so-so kind of affair.
- Story:
Doomed by a double-crossing sorceress (Michelle Yeoh) to spend eternity in suspended animation, China's ruthless Dragon Emperor and his 10,000 warriors have lain forgotten for eons, entombed in clay as a vast, silent terra cotta army. But when dashing adventurer Alex O'Connell is tricked into awakening the ruler from eternal slumber, the reckless young archaeologist must seek the help of the only people who know more than he does about taking down the undead: his parents.
As the monarch roars back to life, our heroes find his quest for world domination has only intensified over the millennia. Striding the Far East with unimaginable supernatural powers, the Emperor Mummy will rouse his legion as an unstoppable, otherworldly force...unless the O'Connells can stop him first."

The prologue to the story, of a marauding, mercenary Chinese warlord trying to become the emperor of china and in the pursuit of this, ending up getting cursed, was quite promising though repetitive if you've seen the earlier Mummies. But as the movie progressed, the story element started to digress. With lots of silliness, loose ends and some pretty slack acting, this story of revenge by a 2000 year old witch for the murder of her lover kinda loses steam.

Jet Li, am a huge fan of his, is wasted in a way the Rock was for the Mummy 2. Most of the time, the wierd CGI mummy thing goes around in the movie posing as him and when he finally turns into himself, he ends up doin all the strange mumbo-jumbo stuff and shape-shifting into wierd creatures, none of the Jet Li stuff we're used to seeing.
Brendan fraser still retains most of his funny stuff with him, but i found the chemistry between him and the new evelyn totally limp, Rachel weisz was so so better. The graphics of the movie are quite an improvement over the older movies of the franchise (but of course!)..the Yeti shown in the movie being a fime example of that, but there was certainly a scope for improvement in that as well but certainly wasn't as bad as the TOI reviewer would have had us believe.
So, if anyone is looking for some "slam blam thank you ma'am" kinda stuff, without having to put much of an effort for the story, then, presto! this movie's for you my dear. Inspite of all the negatives, i wasn't half as bored as i was after watching some really poor and insipid Bollywood stuff lately, so can say its watchable but certainly and absolutely not a scratch on the original Mummy as a concept really.
till l8r ciao...
